She was the inventor of Momma's Chocolate Christmas Cookies - chocolate walnut cookies, topped with a holly leaf made of green icing and red hots.
1/2 cup crisco
1 cup brown sugar
1 well-beaten egg
1/2 cup milk
1/2 t soda
1/4 t salt
3 squares chocolate
1 cup chopped nuts
1 1/2 cups flour
1 tsp vanilla
Makes about 20 cookies
Cream shortening and brown sugar. Add egg and beat well. Sift flour, salt, and soda and add alternating with milk. Add nuts, chocolate, and vanilla. Bake in moderate oven about 10 minutes.
Make holly leaves with confectioner's sugar frosting. Use toothpicks to draw out the points on the leaves. Use cinnamon red hots as holly berries.
